What Kind Of State?

There are many who are concerned about what KIND of country the State of Israel is supposed to be regarding race (we are all human) and religious practice. Even among Jewish believers there is dispute on this issue.

The Balfour Proclamation of Nov 2, 1917, proclaimed the position that Israel (Palestine) was to become a homeland for the Jewish people. The United Nations vote in November 1947 called for a Jewish state alongside an Arab Palestinian one (which the Arabs rejected). The religious Zionist (those who accept the legitimacy of the right of the Jewish people to live in this sovereign nation) Jewish community wants a country where rabbinic Jewish law and practice are the defining factors as to the kind of Jewish homeland for the Jewish people.

What do the Scriptures say? YHVH, God of Israel, is going to restore all Israel — a remnant from all the tribes who will return to Him through repentance and faith in the gospel (Rom 11:25-27). The 10 northern tribes of the divided kingdom had long ago rejected the house of David (and of Judah) as having received the dominion over the nation (1Kg 12:16-20). The southern kingdom of Judah has also long rejected YHVH and His Son Yeshua — the Son of David — — from being their God and King (Jn 19:15).

Many who are returning to the land may well be descendants of the “lost tribes” (not ‘Gentiles’), but who were never really “Jewish” in the Judaistic and rabbinic sense, and they still resist coming under rabbinic Jewish interpretations, even though Jesus gave the scribes and the Pharisees the authority to interpret the Law of Moses for the Jewish people who do not believe in Yeshua as being the Messiah (Mt 23).

God will restore Ephraim and Judah as one stick (Ezek 37:15-28)– as a reunited people and nation under His rule, and take away the hostility between them (Is 11:13). He will also give an equal inheritance to those “strangers” (Gentiles) who live among the children of Israel in their tribal inheritances (Ezek 47:21-23). When Yeshua returns to judge and to rule His people and the nations, what is considered “Jewish” now will not be the standard for what will be “Israeli” then.

As Jewish and Gentile believers in Yeshua/Jesus now, we ought to be concerned with the salvation of Jews and Gentiles now, and have a prophetic vision through the Word and Spirit of God for what the Father has in His heart and mind to do. If we allow ourselves to become politicized, ‘religiousized’, nationalistic, or racial (in a racist sense), then we will make void the Word of God as we pursue our own futile and short-sighted agendas, and solutions to problems which only God has authorized Himself through His Son to solve. His thoughts and ways are far above ours, but He has given us the mind of Messiah. Praise to His holy name!
