Israel marks another deeply reflective annual Memorial Day for its fallen soldiers and victims of terrorism – all those who have sacrificed their lives in the defense of this Jewish nation for the Jewish people – and for others living here who are okay with that – and for this land granted to them through covenantal promises given by YHVH God – the Creator and Owner of all – to them through Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob/Israel.
That the sovereign nation State of Israel exists today is in accord with prophecies given long ago by YHVH through Israeli prophets of His choosing, written down for all to know in the Holy Scriptures of the Israeli Jewish people – in the Five Books of Moses, in the Prophets, and in the Writings (in the Tanach). These prophecies were confirmed by the Messiah Yeshua/Christ Jesus Himself, and in the writings of the New Testament by those chosen by Him.
God used the mechanisms of world governance to carry out His will in legal agreements of international law: firstly by the Balfour Declaration on November 2, 1917 during WWI; in the San Remo Resolution on April 25, 1920; by the League of Nations in July 1922; and by United Nations on November 29, 1947. Israel declared its independence on May 14, 1948 (5 Iyyar 5708 on the Jewish calendar), just a little less than three years after the end of WWII and the decimation of the Jewish people in Europe by the Nazis in the Holocaust. Immediately, Israel was attacked by all the surrounding Arab and Muslim nations — and breaking international law in doing so — to destroy “the new-born baby”, and miraculously defeated them to establish God’s miracle “banner for the nations” that YHVH God of Israel is still here, and seeing to it that His plan for the redemption and salvation of His chosen people is keeping on track after an “absence” of 1878 years of official exile.
The Bible is clear that warfare – both spiritual and carnal – has characterized the history of the Jewish people from their inception: YHVH fighting for them to redeem and to deliver them from Pharaoh and slavery in Egypt; the Israelis warring against the pagan/heathen nations dwelling in the Land of Canaan (whose iniquity had come to full fruition, as YHVH had foretold to Abraham) in order to inherit and possess the chosen land of the God of all the Earth to give to the covenantal physical descendants of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob/Israel; hundreds of years of near continuous warfare with the nations round about who rejected the plan and choice of God concerning His plan of redemption and salvation of His uniquely holy people and nation Israel, through whom He would also bring blessing and life to all those who accept that.
The Jewish people were given permission by the King of Persia during Queen Esther’s time and her uncle Mordecai’s to defend themselves, and then to attack those who sought to annihilate all of the Jews in Ahasuerus’s huge kingdom. They had to fight the enemies of the return of the Jews back to Jerusalem and Judea by the decree of King Cyrus; the Maccabees had to fight the Greek hellenizers and Jewish covenant-breakers during the evil reign of Antiochus Epiphanes to eradicate Jewish Temple worship in accord with the Torah. The Jewish people fought the Romans trying to free themselves from a God-given judgment and exile from the land.
The Jews have suffered antisemitic persecution and massacres in every place that God scattered them during the nearly 1900 years of exile (tragic consequences of covenant unfaithfulness), with the worst of all until now being the Holocaust, when European Jewry was decimated; and even until now, once again within their land, the warfare has not yet been ended, as prophesied through Daniel the Prophet, and confirmed by the Lord Jesus Christ/Yeshua the Messiah Himself in His own prophecies regarding the end-times of the last days for the generation leading up to His powerful and glorious return at the appointed time determined by God the Father. At that time in that Day, YHVH God “will finish the transgression [of His people], make and end of sins; make reconciliation for iniquity; bring in everlasting righteousness, seal up vision and prophecy; and anoint the Most Holy”. O Come, Lord Jesus!
While all Israel unites in remembrance with gratitude all those who have given their lives for the preservation of the State, and then celebrates its 78th anniversary of “independence”, her God and Redeemer and Savior long-sufferingly waits for their self-realization (not, “self-determination”) that that they are lost and doomed apart from being totally dependent upon Him – God their Father and His Anointed One, King Yeshua/Jesus, His beloved Son – who has been completely faithful to His covenants that He has cut/made with them, even though they and we have not.
By grace they will be saved, even if by fire: the holy preserved remnant that is “all Israel” will be His people, and He will be their God; and their warfare will be ended, and they will inherit and possess the land as an everlasting possession, and none will make them afraid any longer, but everlasting peace will flow like a river. O come, Lord Jesus!
