Israel is not in some obscure ‘corner’ of the world: Israel is in the very center of the world/Earth. (Think “Medi-terranean”.)
Israel is a microcosm of all humanity, and mirrors to everyone their own sins and foibles and weaknesses, and . . . . all that they do not like about themselves and want to project them onto others. (Israel also reflects the great and noble hopes and aspirations of humanity, yet our nature is to notice and point out that which is not good, especially if we do not really like a person or a people.)
Finding their sins in Israel and in the Jewish people, the nations of the world find a ready-made scapegoat to blame, who is not “guilty”, other than bearing all that is ‘not good’ in those preferring an innocent victim to be demonized and sent away, thrown off the cliff to its death, hoping that the ‘problem’ will be removed, the conscience cleared (since this scapegoat is full of everyone’s sins – its own plus everybody else’s), and life will be safer and better.
Israel’s vibrant re-emergence challenges the humanistic pride and the inability to make the world permanently better, and actually gives hope against the re-emergence of fundamentalist Islam and its quest for world conquest, even if, in the process, everyone must die and the whole world destroyed and desolated. SOMEONE is looking after us, preserving us and beckoning us, calling out with ‘good’ news.
Israel IS the story for all the world to take note of, which is why so many journalists, “world powers and rulers”, and others are fixated on it.
