MATURITY UNTO GODLINESS

Godliness is not only about morality, or a moral life.  It has especially to do with the character of God:  like Father, like Son.  God is righteous and meek.  God is love.  God is holy.  Aspects which the Holy Spirit is forming in us to conform us to the image and likeness of God can be found in Yeshua’s teachings of the beatitudes; in the qualities of the fruit of the Holy Spirit; and in the traits characterizing love given in 1Cor 13

Gen 3:5   for God knows that in the day you eat of it, then your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as God, knowing good and evil

Heb 5:12-6:3   For indeed because of the time, you ought to be teachers, you have need that one teach you again what are the first principles of the oracles of God. And you have become in need of milk, and not of solid food.  For everyone partaking of milk is unskillful in the Word of Righteousness, for he is an infant.  But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, even those who because of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.  Therefore, having left the discourse of the beginning of Christ, let us go on to full growth, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,  of the baptisms, of doctrine, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.  And this we will do, if God permits.

1Co 3:1-4   And I, brothers, could not speak to you as to spiritual ones, but as to fleshly, as to babes in Christ.  I have fed you with milk and not with solid food, for you were not yet able to bear it; nor are you able even now.  For you are yet carnal. For in that there is among you envyings and strife and divisions, are you not carnal, and do you not walk according to men?  For while one says, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are you not carnal?

Eph 4:11-16   And truly He gave some to be apostles, and some to be prophets, and some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.  And this until we all come into the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a full-grown man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;  so that we no longer may be infants, tossed to and fro and carried about by every wind of doctrine, in the dishonesty of men, in cunning craftiness, to the wiles of deceit.  But that you, speaking the truth in love, may in all things grow up to Him who is the Head, even Christfrom whom the whole body, fitted together and compacted by that which every joint supplies, according to the effectual working in the measure of each part, producing the growth of the body to the edifying of itself in love.

Joh 3:12   If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how shall you believe if I tell you heavenly things

1Co 6:2-5   Do you not know that the saints shall judge the world? And if the world shall be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters?  Do you not know that we shall judge angels, not to mention the things of this life?  If, then, you truly have judgments of the things of this life, set those who are least esteemed in the church to judge.  For I speak to your shame. Is it so that there is not a wise one among you, not even one in your midst who shall be able to judge between his brother?

Jud 1:14-15   And Enoch, the seventh from Adam, also prophesied to these, saying, Behold, the Lord comes with myriads of His saintsto do judgment against all, and to rebuke all the ungodly of them concerning all their ungodly works which they ungodly did, and concerning all the hard things ungodly sinners spoke against Him.
